Susan Sarandon Bio
It was following the 1968 Democratic convention and there was a casting request for a film featuring a range of roles for young people who had disrupted the convention. Joe (1970) was selected for auditions in New York by two recent Catholic University graduates. Chris Sarandon was not selected for the role, despite having previously studied acting. His wife Susan got a major role.That role was as Susan Compton, the daughter of an ad executive Bill Compton (Dennis Patrick). Dad Bill kills Susan’s drug dealer boyfriend. Then, Joe (Peter Boyle) is a bigot who works on an assembly line and is a collector of guns, meets Susan. Five years later, Sarandon plays the role in the movie. Janet is a transvestite who becomes entangled with the mysterious Dr. Frank n Furter (1975). More than 15 years after having started her career, Sarandon at last actively campaigned for a role that was a hit, Annie in Bull Durham (1988), travelling at her own expense Rome from Rome to Los Angeles. "It was a fantastic script... It did away with a lot legends, and challenged American definitions of success," she said. "When I arrived in the city I spent a bit of time with Kevin Costner, kissed some in the studio, and then was back on the plane". Her love affair with Bull Durham (1988)) supporting actor, Tim Robbins, had given birth to two sons in 1992. It placed Sarandon in the position of having to leave her idyllic home and stepping into roles that really tested her. It was the result four Academy Award nominations in 1990s, and best actress for Dead Man Walking (1995). Her first Academy Award nomination was for Louis Malle's Atlantic City (1980).
