Ronny Chieng
Ronny Xin
Yichieng was born on 21 November 1985. Chieng is currently the senior
correspondent of The Daily Show on Comedy Central. He also created and stars
the sitcom Ronny Chieng International Student, which premiered on ABC Australia
(Australia) in the year 2017. Chieng was born into an Malaysian Chinese family.
He was born in Johor Bahru. He grew up in both Singapore and in the United
States, living in Manchester, New Hampshire from 1989 to 1994. Chieng performed
alongside Trevor Noah in 2013 at an event for comedy in Melbourne, Australia.
Chieng was then invited to be a candidate for the role of correspondent on
Noah's Daily Show two years after. In July of 2016 Chieng was named one of the
10 Comics to Check out by Variety In October 2016, Chieng appeared on The Daily
Show to give his response to a Jesse Watters Fox News segment that was
criticized by some as being racist. Chieng expressed his opinion with a lot of
expletive about the segment from Fox News, a conservative network. He also
visited New York City's Chinatown where Watters had ridiculed the residents.
The video was viewed by millions and received media coverage in the Washington

Singapore Sea Scout. Despite living in Australia for more than a decade Chieng
does not hold citizenship or permanent residence status in Australia. Chieng
joked in 2018 that there was a phobia of cynophobia, however, he later stated
that he is 100 % not scared of dogs.
